Patient on board west Belfast crash ambulance dies

A patient who was in an ambulance that crashed in west Belfast on Thursday has died in hospital.

Three paramedics were also taken to hospital after their ambulance and a car collided.

Police have said they cannot say yet if the patient died due to the crash.

The crew was transporting the seriously ill man in his 50s to hospital when it was involved in the crash on the Grosvenor Road, at its junction with the Westlink.

The woman driving the other car was treated in hospital and discharged. The paramedics' injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Grosvenor Road off-slip remains closed citybound and the Grosvenor Road is closed in both directions.

Drivers can access the Westlink at Grosvenor Road country-bound, but must exit the Westlink city-bound at Broadway or Divis Street.
