A six-year-old boy who only started playing golf 15 months ago has qualified for the Junior World Golf Championships.

Alfie Burnett, from Rossendale, Lancashire, has been chosen as a member of Team GB which will compete in San Diego, USA in July.

Neither of his parents play the game but he was encouraged to pick up a club at a family barbecue by an uncle.

The youngster got hooked on the game and has progressed rapidly.

'Really excited'

Alfie will compete in the six and under age group.

"I have never seen anybody of that age with such natural talent," said his coach Mike Bardi.

Alfie said: "I am really excited, I'm good but I didn't think I was that good."

According to his parents he is showing great dedication to the sport.

"My living room is covered in golf balls, we have putters lying around all over the house," said his mother Nicola.
