A clean-up operation has started in a village near Wrexham after a landslide blocked a road and affected homes.

Residents say 3ft (90cm) of mud was swept down a hillside road at Minera on Wednesday morning after a night of heavy rain.

Contractors have been called to clear the debris from the road at Ty Brith.

The air ambulance took an elderly man to hospital with chest pains after a road crew was unable to reach the scene.

John Edwards, chair of Minera Community Council, said mud and sludge came down the road making it difficult to walk into the road and blocking it to vehicles, cutting off access to homes.

"I've never seen anything to this extent before," he said.

"There must have been quite a bit of water as it took the bank away."

Mr Edwards said paramedics had to call in colleagues in an air ambulance as they were unable to reach a resident who had been taken ill.

The Welsh Ambulances Service NHS Trust confirmed an air crew ferried a 78-year-old man to hospital with chest pains at about 11:20 BST.

North Wales Fire and Rescue have received several callouts to flood-related incidents on Wednesday.

Four men have been rescued from their vehicle after it was stranded in a flood in Bedwell Road, Cross Lanes, Wrexham.

Firefighters from Wrexham and a water incident crew from Deeside were called to the scene at about 13:45 BST. Fire crews are still there.

Meanwhile, the A5 has reopened between the B5434 Gate Road, Froncysyllte, and B5070 at Glendrid island in Chirk.

The B5605 has also reopened in both directions between the A539 Llangollen Road at Ruabon and A5 at Pentre.

Cefn Road in Wrexham is just passable, according to Traffic Wales.
