Passenger injured in glider crash Pilot dies in glider plane crash

The emergency services have been called to the scene of a glider crash in Moray. The pilot of a glider plane has died and a passenger was seriously injured after a crash in the Highlands.
A spokesman for Grampian Police said the accident happened at about 1615 BST on rough ground half a mile outside the village of Tomintoul. The craft came down in rough ground near the village of Tomintoul in Moray at about 1615 BST.
An injured passenger has been airlifted to Raigmore Hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service. The injured passenger was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital, and the man's injuries are described as serious.
The spokesman said that air accident investigators would be attending the crash site. Grampian Police said officers had cordoned off the site and begun inquiries. Air accident investigators are due to arrive on Monday.
The crash was reported to police by a member of the public.
The Deeside Gliding Club in Aboyne is about 30 miles from Tomintoul.
Glider enthusiasts visit the club each year from September to the end of October to fly in what organisers call the "wave" conditions produced over the Highlands.
It is not known if the people involved in the crash were connected to the club.
