Scientists from around the world will attend a conference in Dundee to examine links between major diseases.

More than 70 researchers will discuss genetic connections between cancer, diabetes and cystic fibrosis.

One key area the delegates will look at is the understanding how the NDPK gene affects the spread of cancer.

The aim of the gathering is to promote the sharing of information, which could lead to new breakthroughs in the treatment of the conditions.

The congress - titled "Emerging links between cancer metastasis, metabolic syndrome, cystic fibrosis and fetal development" - has been organised by a scientist at Dundee University.

Dr Anil Mehta said: "This is an area of medical research which has the potential to make a significant impact on how we treat some major diseases.

"It is extremely fitting that the congress is taking place in Dundee, where there has been so much good work done already in this area of research."
