SDLP assembly member Pat Ramsey said a "zero tolerance" approach should be taken to such attacks.
"The people of this city are outraged by this sickening attack on our emergency services," he said.
"It is shameful that a small group of young people have engaged in such mindless attacks, especially given all the positive and constructive work of the local community."
