Woman stabbed and officers hurt

A 60-year-old woman has been stabbed in an "unprovoked attack" in an incident in Birmingham during which two officers were also injured, police said.

The woman is in a serious condition in hospital after officers were called to Pershore Road, Edgbaston, on Thursday.

The male police officers were injured while trying to make an arrest and are being treated in hospital for injuries which are not thought to be serious.

A man, believed to be in his 20s, has been arrested.

Police, who have seized a weapon, are asking anyone with information to contact Belgrave Road police station.
