Parents think 'prank' killed son

The family of a 16-year-old boy found dead in his garden with a rope around his neck believe he may have died in a "prank that went wrong".

Sean Haughey would sometimes try to copy stunts or jokes he had seen on TV, his father Neil said.

"He was always up to something - a real loveable rogue," said Mr Haughey.

He died at his home in Llangunnor near Carmarthen last Thursday. An inquest has been opened and adjourned but there are no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Haughey said: "We don't really know what happened but we think he was up to something because that was the type of boy he was.

"He liked the stunt shows on television and had many of the tapes.

"He only turned 16 four weeks ago and we bought him a small 50cc bike - he came off that doing something.

"Ask his friends - they will say there was not a bad bone in his body - he was just a loveable rogue."

The teenager took his GCSE examinations at Queen Elizabeth High School earlier this year and eventually planned to join the Army.

"I was in the Army and he was born while we were in Germany. He was in the Army cadets in Carmarthen.

"I did not want him to go in (to the forces) at 16 so he was going to come and work laying power lines with me for a while," added Mr Haughey.

His parents are asking friends to wear colourful clothes to the funeral at St Peter's Church in Carmarthen on Friday.
