Contractor killed in Iraq bombing

A 26-year-old man from east Belfast has been killed in Iraq, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

Ian Chalmers was working for a private security company in the Al-kut area when he was fatally injured by a roadside bomb on Sunday.

The former soldier was working for the Aegis firm. Its remit includes the protection of civilians and soldiers travelling in Iraq.

There are up to 20,000 security contractors in Iraq.
