Version 0 of 1.

A teenager has told a court his father sat beside his dead stepmother's body after killing her and said: "Call the police, let them arrest me".

Miroslav Wosik, 42, of Galashiels, denies murdering Bernadeta Jakubszyk, 30, at her home in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, last May.

St Albans Crown Court heard Daniel Wosik, 18, ran up the stairs to find the victim dead on her bed.

Prosecutors said Ms Jakubszyk died of stab wounds in a "revenge" attack.

'Really loud screaming'

The court heard the attack happened after the Polish husband travelled from his home in Beach Avenue, Galashiels, on the Scottish Borders, to visit his family in The Wye, Hemel Hempstead.

Mr Wosik had moved out of the family home in Hertfordshire weeks earlier and gone to Scotland when his marriage to Ms Jakubszyk hit difficulties.

Daniel, the defendant's son from a previous marriage, was living with his father and stepmother at the three-storey town house along with the couple's two daughters, aged eight and six, and Ms Jakubszyk's cousin.

The court heard the defendant told his son Ms Jakubszyk had a boyfriend and was always going out with friends.

Daniel told the court he was woken up at 03:00 BST on 27 May, last year, to hear "screaming like you hear in a scary movie".

After running upstairs, he said: "I stopped in front of the door, I heard a choking sound.

"I was in shock and I couldn't step into the room."

Light from the landing outside, showed his father was sitting on the bed and his step-mother lying beside him.

'Ultimate revenge'

"She was half on the bed and half on the ground facing down," Daniel told the jury.

"My dad was rocking forwards and backwards. He said, 'Call the police, let them arrest me'."

Ms Jakubszyk died at the scene from two stab wounds that punctured her lung.

The defendant also inflicted a wound to his own stomach using a knife from under their bed, prosecutor Anne Evans said.

She added by the time of her death, Ms Jakubszyk was getting her life back together and meeting up with her Polish friends, but it was "obviously too much for the defendant to bear and he took the ultimate revenge on her".

The trial continues.
