A Zimbabwean family living in Belfast say they fear for their lives after the Home Office turned down their asylum application.

The couple, whose five year old daughter was born in Northern Ireland, fled Africa in 2002.

Upenyu Hove claims he was beaten and tortured by police there for organising pro-democracy rallies against Robert Mugabe's government.

Mr Hove said he was very worried about what would happn next.

"Now I am still very worried to say 'what is going to happen to me?'" he said.

"In Zimbawe we have the fear of being tortured, being beaten up, being killed.

"Now my worry is what is going to happen to me in the next hour."
