A man and two teenagers have been remanded in custody accused of the murder of a 23-year-old man with learning difficulties.

Brent Martin died in hospital after being found with multiple injuries in Sunderland on Thursday night.

William Hughes, 21, of Washington Road, Sunderland, and two youths, aged 17 and 16, who cannot be named, appeared at Sunderland Magistrates' Court.

A woman and a 17-year-old arrested over the attack have been bailed.

Mr Martin's family, including mother Brenda and twin sister Danielle, were in court for the brief hearing on Monday.

Solicitors for the three defendants did not apply for bail and they were all remanded into custody to appear before Newcastle Crown Court next month.
