Version 0 of 1.

A sharp blade has been found embedded in a swing in a children's play area in County Londonderry.

It was discovered on Thursday afternoon in Anderson's Park in Coleraine.

Police have described those responsible as extremely reckless and want to hear from anyone who has any information about the incident.

Alex Carmichael of Coleraine Borough Council said the council was horrified by the "careless act that could have caused serious injury to a child".

He added: "We would like to compliment the park ranger, Trevor Duff, for his vigilance in spotting the implement embedded in the swing and for his actions in calling the PSNI.

"Although we endeavour to do all we can to keep children's play areas safe we would ask parents to check play equipment carefully before allowing their children to play."
