A man has been charged with the murder of a pilot at an Edinburgh flat. A 23-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a pilot at an Edinburgh flat.
Steven Barrett, 27, who was a first officer working out of Edinburgh Airport, was found in Lochend Butterfly Way in the early hours of Saturday. Darren McLauchlan, 23, made a brief appearance in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier.
He was originally from Cardiff and had just left the RAF. Steven Barrett, 27, who was a Flybe first officer working out of Edinburgh Airport, was found in Lochend Butterfly Way in the early hours of Saturday.
Police Scotland said a 23-year-old man had been charged. He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later. He was originally Bridgend in Wales and had just left the RAF. Mr McLauchlan was remanded in custody.
No plea or declaration was made on Mr McLauchlan's behalf and the case was continued for further inquiry.
Mr Barrett's family said: "We have all been left utterly devastated and are still in complete shock following Steven's death.
"Steven was a wonderful and loving brother, son and grandson.
"His kindness and love of life were apparent to anyone he met and no one ever had a bad word to say about him.
"He was always there for his family and friends and lit up the world of everyone he knew."
The family said Steven was also "incredibly passionate" about flying and after leaving Swansea University, he joined the RAF in 2007 where he trained to fly Hawks and won an award for being pilot of the year.
He joined the Flybe team as a commercial pilot in 2012.
