Detectives are investigating the "horrendous" rape of a woman near a park in Clydebank.

The 34-year-old was walking along Mountblow Road at about 0100 BST when she was pushed into bushes at the entrance of Dalmuir Park and raped.

Her attacker was white, blonde and stocky, aged about 18 or 19 and was wearing a white tracksuit.

Police are especially keen to speak to a couple who were walking by the park entrance at the time of the assault.

After the attack, the man ran off in the direction of Dalmuir Park and the woman flagged down a taxi on Mountblow Road.

'Horrendous assault'

Police said she was "extremely shaken" by her ordeal.

Det Insp Charlie Henry said: "I am appealing to members of the public to help us in tracing the man responsible for this horrendous assault.

"I am particularly keen to hear from a couple who were walking past the entrance to Dalmuir Park at the time of the attack.

"There may also have been passing motorists or other pedestrians as it is quite a busy road."
