A teenager caught on camera performing a dangerous stunt on his moped has been banned from driving for 15 months.

The 16-year-old boy, from Leeds, was filmed standing up and riding with his arms outstretched to the side.

He was recorded by North Yorkshire Police's mobile safety camera on the A63 near Selby on 28 July last year.

Police said the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was "very lucky he was not facing more serious, life-changing consequences".

The boy, who admitted dangerous driving, was also given a six-month referral order by York magistrates.

Dave Brown, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "This young man has lost his licence before he has even begun to drive.

"I hope both he and other young people learn from this experience.

"The case also sends a clear message that the safety camera is not just capable of capturing speeders, but can record indisputable evidence of a variety of offences.

"Motorists should take note and drive responsibly as well as within the speed limit."
