Israelis deny killing Hamas man Israelis deny killing Hamas man
(about 5 hours later)
A Hamas fighter has been killed in what the Palestinian militant group says was an Israeli aircraft-launched missile strike on the Gaza Strip. Another Hamas militant was seriously injured in an explosion that occurred just east of Gaza City. The Israeli army has said it had no involvement in the death of a Hamas militant in an explosion in Gaza on Thursday evening.
Hamas said the missile strike had targeted a group of its members in the area. Hamas officials said one militant was killed and another was critically injured in an Israeli missile attack.
But an Israeli army spokesman denied that the military had carried out any such operation in Gaza. Hamas said the gunmen had been hiding in a shed in a field east of Gaza City scouting Israeli troop positions, when they were hit.
Israeli troops have carried out a number of strikes and raids against Palestinian militants in Gaza in recent months. But an Israeli army spokesman denied any Israeli attack had taken place.
Israel said seven rockets had been fired from the Gaza Strip towards Israel earlier on Thursday. Three of the rockets hit Israeli territory, but no-one was injured.
Before Thursday's explosion, 10 militants and two teenaged Palestinian boys had been killed in Israeli missile attacks in Gaza since Monday.
