A male model used to promote a shopping centre in Cardiff has been jailed for three years after being found guilty of rape.

Cardiff Crown Court heard how Spencer Collings, 22, began having consensual sex with a woman but she asked him to stop because it was painful.

Collings, from Cardiff, told police he "wanted to have sex with her".

His face had been featured on billboards advertising the St Davids shopping centre in the city centre.

The court heard how despite the woman saying no to sex, music student Collings carried on, telling her: "I've never been so turned on".

After the rape, he told police how he tried to console the woman.

"She asked me to stop but I didn't," he said during interviews.

"I wanted to have sex with her.

"She was shivering and upset. I comforted her."

The court heard the woman later sent him a text message which said: "You're a filthy stinking rapist".

Collings, of Grangetown, Cardiff, pleaded not guilty to rape during his trial but was found guilty by a jury.

Judge William Gaskell told him: "When she told you 'No' you pinned her down with your arm across her chest and carried on.

"You later told her you had never been so turned on."

Modelling

Collings had been chosen to be featured as a "Face of St Davids" to promote a shopping centre in Cardiff.

His "full of character" image was among a dozen happy faces featured on posters around the city.

After the case, Steven Madeley, general manager of St David's Shopping Centre, said: "The relationship between the individual and the shopping centre has been terminated with immediate effect.

"We have withdrawn all promotional materials that involve the individual concerned."
