Sacha's parents, Miriana Weston and David Mason, from Cricklewood, north-west London, said they have been touched by the kindness and sympathy shown by "friends and strangers alike".
Wonderful son
In a statement they said: "On Monday evening, our wonderful two-month old baby boy Sacha was tragically killed in a motor collision.
"We, and our friends and family, are devastated by this senseless loss."
The accident took place when the silver Fiesta mounted the pavement in Park Avenue.
The vehicle travelled about 82ft (25 metres) before hitting Ms Weston, 32, and her baby son before stopping against a wall.
Sacha was taken to Royal Free Hospital but later died. Ms Weston also received treatment at the hospital for minor injuries.
A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as head injuries. An inquest was opened and adjourned on Thursday at Hornsey Coroners' Court.
Insp Andy Nelson, of the Metropolitan Police, said a theory that the man's jeans had snagged on the brake pedal was "one of a number of things we are investigating".
Police said the driver from Harrow, north-west London, had provided a negative breathalyser test. He has been released and does not face any further action at this stage.
