The incident happened during the morning at Riddlesdown station, British Transport Police (BTP) said. | |
The woman has been identified as Donna Oettinger, 41, and her son as three-year-old Zachary. They were confirmed dead at the scene. | |
The station, which is in the London borough of Croydon, was closed earlier. Trains on the Oxted route are now running but with delays. | |
A BTP spokeswoman said: "The incident was reported to BTP at 8.29am and was also attended by Metropolitan Police officers. | |
"Medics from the London Ambulance Service also attended, but Donna and Zachary were sadly pronounced dead at the scene." | |
Senior Investigating Officer Det Ch Insp Iain Miller said: "Our thoughts remain with Donna and Zachary's family and friends at this sad and difficult time. | |
"Officers are continuing to work to establish the full circumstances of what happened, although early indications show that no one else was believed to have been involved. | |
