A car which is feared to contain a passenger has fallen off a slipway into the River Fal in south Cornwall. | |
Devon and Cornwall Police were called at 16:10 GMT to the Roseland Peninsula, near Truro, where the King Harry Ferry is based. | |
Falmouth Coastguard and the emergency services are at the scene and trying to pull the car out of the water. | |
The driver, a woman, escaped but police fear another passenger could still be in the car. | |
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the rescue was proving more difficult than had been first thought and police divers had been requested to help with the operation. | |
A rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and inshore and all weather lifeboats from Falmouth are also at the scene. | |
A civilian diver has also been inspecting the car. | |
A statement from the King Harry Ferry said the car went into the water at about 16:00 GMT, when the ferry was at the Feock side of the river. | |
"The service has been temporarily suspended and emergency services are in attendance," it added. |
