Israeli soldiers have shot dead a Palestinian militant during clashes in the West Bank town of Nablus.

Reports say the gunman was linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a secular militant group.

He was shot in an exchange of fire with Israeli troops in the al-Ein refugee camp early on Tuesday morning.

The Israeli military carries out frequent operations in Nablus, the most populous city in the West Bank.

On Monday, an Israeli missile strike killed six Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
