Natalie Nougayrède, 46, was chosen Friday as the first woman to serve as both director and editor of Le Monde, France’s most prominent newspaper, and its Web site. Ms. Nougayrède, the diplomatic correspondent and former Moscow bureau chief for the newspaper, was elected by the staff after being nominated by the principal owners. She succeeds Érik Izraelewicz, who died suddenly in November and who had first combined the jobs of director and editor. Sylvie Kauffmann was the first woman to serve as editor of Le Monde, under the director Éric Fottorino. |
