His family members, friends and local residents marched up to the spot where he was assaulted and laid flowers.
'Enough is enough'
Mr Anil, from Upper Norwood, south-east London, was of Turkish origin and had recently graduated with a first class degree in computer science from Kingston University.
The people at the vigil lit candles, said prayers and handed out Mr Anil's photographs, appealing for information about his attackers.
His friends described him as a someone who always had a smile on his face and was the "kindest person who never hurt anybody".
Mehmet Aray, his cousin, said: "As a community we stood up and said enough is enough, we can't accept this sort of crime to be part of our lives anymore.
"We need to claim our streets back... make it safe for our families and kids."

Police handed out leaflets appealing for witnesses to come forward with information throughout the borough.
