Creamfields to spend £500,000 improving Daresbury site

Festival organisers Creamfields have announced improvements to their site following the "regrettable cancellation" of the event last year.

The last day of the August festival was cancelled after heavy rain led to flooding in the arena and campsite.

The organisers will spend £500,000 on the Daresbury site in Cheshire to improve drainage and communications.

A spokeswoman said organisers were "committed to improving the safety, security and suitability of the site".

She said a number of arenas deemed unfit due to flooding last year would also be moved to "higher areas".

The three-day event, which runs annually across the August bank holiday weekend, was due to see sets from Deadmau5, Calvin Harris and Sub Focus among others before the decision was made to cancel.

Thousands of revellers were helped off the site on 26 August, after "adverse weather" caused flooding.

The improvements will include laying of 2.5km (1.5 miles) of new drains and 1.5km (0.9 miles) of trackways, the spokeswoman said.

The line-up for this year's event will be announced on Wednesday and tickets go on sale on Friday.
