Intended as a downbeat companion to 2009's Alkohol, this latest from the Sarajevo composer proves scarcely less fiery, with lashings of Balkan brass and breakneck tempos on pieces like Boogie Unca Woogie and Quantum Utopia. The album is also a reaction to the demonisation of Roma people, with guest spots from across Europe. France's Gipsy Kings deliver their customary power strum on Presidente, Gogol Bordello's Eugene Hütz growls in droll cabaret style on Be that Man, and Ireland's Selina O'Leary sings on the Djangoesque On a Leash. The variety is soon lost amid orchestral flurries, but Bregovic's vibrant, good-humoured approach is always entertaining.Intended as a downbeat companion to 2009's Alkohol, this latest from the Sarajevo composer proves scarcely less fiery, with lashings of Balkan brass and breakneck tempos on pieces like Boogie Unca Woogie and Quantum Utopia.
