Version 0 of 1.

A man high on drink and drugs when he raped his aunt before stealing her money and wrapping her head in duct tape has been jailed for eight years.

Belfast Crown Court heard that the aunt had signed as a bail surety for the 22-year-old less than 24 hours before she was attacked.

The court heard the woman who had fallen asleep woke to find the man wrapping her head in duct tape.

The man, who cannot be named, will also spend two years on probation.

He will also be placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

Mr Justice Stephens told the man from north Antrim that he had abused the trust his aunt had placed in him.

Revealing that the woman suffers flashbacks "every minute of every day," the judge added that because of the relationship between them, he had caused her to suffer a "greater psychological impact".

Her nephew was arrested and interviewed but he claimed his aunt had "instigated this whole matter" by making sexual advances towards him.

However, he did admit that at the time, he had taken crack cocaine and vodka.

He later pleaded guilty to charges of rape, theft and false imprisonment.
