(about 4 hours later)
Russian long-range bombers have flown over the Atlantic and Pacific oceans in a military drill, say Russian media. Russia is resuming its Soviet-era practice of sending its bomber aircraft on long-range flights, President Vladimir Putin has said.
Mr Putin said the halting of such flights 15 years ago had affected Russia's security because "not everyone followed our example".
The move comes a week after Russian bombers flew within a few hundred miles of the US Pacific island of Guam.
Russia has recently been stressing a more assertive foreign policy.
