Version 0 of 1.

Gloria Estefan, the Grammy-winning pop singer, is hoping that the rhythm is gonna get her all the way to Broadway, after revealing that she is developing an autobiographical musical.

Estefan and her music mogul husband Emilio have joined forces with the Broadway production company the Nederlander Organisation for the production, which is still in embryonic form despite reportedly having been in the planning stage for more than a decade.

Both Estefans were born in Cuba, emigrating at two and 14 respectively, before they met as aspiring musicians in Miami. While Gloria went on to have a string of international hits, including 1-2-3 and Rhythm Is Gonna Get You, Emilio moved into production and worked with Shakira, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin, among others. Between them, they have had a hand in almost 30 Grammy awards.

"We are very excited to share this story, which is based on hope, determination and the belief that with hard work and passion, our dreams can become reality," the couple said in a statement. "Our music has been a true reflection of who we are, where we came from and the journey that has brought us to where we are today."

No timeline has been set for the production, which currently hasn't got a writer, director or creative team attached.

Nederlander's president, Jimmy Nederlander, said he was "thrilled to collaborate with Gloria and Emilio to see their amazing story come to fruition on the Broadway stage". He added: "The Estefans' journey of success, led by raw talent and passion, is captivating as it drove them from relative obscurity to global sensations."
