Man charged over hospital attack

A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder after the death of a woman who was an in-patient at a psychiatric unit in Greater Manchester.

A 58-year-old female mental health patient was found collapsed on a ward at Birch Hill Hospital on Monday evening, police said.

She was taken to Rochdale Royal Infirmary where she later died.

Telahum Tedola, 36, of Birch Hill Hospital, in Rochdale, will appear before Rochdale magistrates later.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to reports of an assault at the hospital at about 1800 BST.
