A 58-year-old woman has died after being attacked at a hospital in Greater Manchester. | |
The victim was assaulted at Birch Hill Hospital on Union Road, Littleborough, on Monday evening. | |
The woman was taken to the Rochdale Infirmary but died a short time later. A post-mortem examination will take place later. | |
A 36-year-old man, also a patient, has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody. | |

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to reports of an assault at the hospital at about 1800 BST. | |
A spokesman for Pennine Care NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said staff had sought help to deal with a "patient incident". | |
"The incident resulted in the sudden and unexpected death of a patient, as a consequence of injuries sustained," he said. | |

Detectives launched a murder inquiry and trust staff are continuing to help police with their inquiries. | |
