A young man from County Armagh has died while on holiday in Greece.

Brendan McCoey, 18, from Cullyhanna left for Crete with a group of friends last Friday. It is understood his body was found in a pool on Sunday morning.

Sinn Fein councillor Terry Herty, who knows the McCoey family, said the entire community of Cullyhanna was shocked.

"There were eight friends from the area, so there are a lot of people affected," he said.

SDLP councillor Geraldine Donnelly said: "My heart goes out to Brendan's family and friends on hearing this sad and tragic news.

"My thoughts and prayers are with all those who were on holiday with Brendan, no-one can imagine the grief his family and friends are going through at this sad time."
