Robert Smith, QC, prosecuting, said the night before the alleged robbery all five defendants, Mustaf Jamma and another man who has evaded arrest, stayed at an address used to house asylum seekers in Leeds.
Mr Smith said a "key witness" in the case would be Francois Baron, who was working at the house at the time.
He said Mr Baron claimed the group began to panic after seeing news of the shootings on television.
Mr Smith said Mr Baron was asked to dispose of some clothes and burn the contents of a wash basket but he did not and the clothes were later recovered by police.
