The vehicles were being driven along a bridle path near to the Monsal Trail, north of the A6 near Buxton, when they came off the path and entered the River Wye, at about 08:30 GMT. The condition of the other people is not yet known. About five minutes later, the mother and her son, in a Toyota Rav4, left the path and also entered the river, close to the first vehicle.
The family were treated at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, Greater Manchester. Local residents jumped in to help rescue the man, who was trapped inside his vehicle. The girl managed to escape to safety.

Neil Carruthers, of Buxton Mountain Rescue, said they were called to assist in rescuing two of the casualties that were further along the river near the cottages.
He said: "It is unclear how they came to be there but two people were found further along from where the crash happened.
"They were not in the river and we assisted with their evacuation."
