Milder weatherMilder weather
This weather is expected to fall as snow as it moves into eastern Scotland, northern England and the Midlands, with 5-10cm (2-4in) possible on higher ground. BBC weather forecaster Nick Miler said this would be another period of heavy snow before the cold spell came to an end, with the weather changing dramatically at the weekend.
But it is due to become milder over the weekend, with temperatures set to return to normal levels for the end of January. He said the snow would develop from Scotland into central and eastern England on Friday evening.
"It's all change over the weekend as mild air gushes eastwards, displacing the cold, and we will see significantly higher temperatures. But these weather fronts will also bring rain," BBC forecaster John Hammond said. Over the weekend, there would be milder weather with rain and a quick thaw of the snow bringing the risk of flooding, he added.
