Cornish family hospitalised after carbon monoxide poisoning Cornish family escape 'potentially fatal dose' of carbon monoxide
(about 5 hours later)
A family of four, including two children, are being treated in hospital after carbon monoxide poisoning. A family of four escaped a "potentially fatal dose" of carbon monoxide, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) has said.
South Western Ambulance Service was called to a property in Canworthy Water, Launceston at about 02:00 GMT after the occupants felt unwell. CFRS was called to the Canworthy Water property at about 02:00 GMT after two boys aged four and seven became sick.
The fire service was also alerted and a gas detector indicated high readings of the poisonous gas. The mother and one son were treated and discharged from Derriford Hospital. The father and second son are being treated in a hyperbaric chamber.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service ventilated the property with a fan and fitted two smoke detectors. CFRS said the amount of gas detected could have killed them within minutes.
The condition of the family is not known. Lee Griffin, from the fire service, said: "The family were in an extremely dangerous position.
"Potentially within ten minutes to half an hour this family may not be here today."
The property has been ventilated with a fan to remove the gas and also fitted with two smoke detectors.
