Eritrea appeared calm on Tuesday, a day after renegade soldiers stormed a government ministry and briefly took over the state-run airwaves, according to capital residents. “Shops, offices, banks, schools are all open,” a resident wrote by e-mail. “And cars and buses and taxis seem to be running normally.” The writer added: “The situation is murky. Nobody seems to know whether there was a coup attempt, or the whole thing was staged for some sinister purpose.” |
