Two men have been arrested after a double shooting near Manchester city centre on Saturday afternoon.

Police were called to Wadeson Road in Chorlton-on-Medlock and found two men, both aged 24, with gunshot wounds.

One of the men had been shot in the arm and the torso while the other had been shot in the neck. Both were said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Two men, aged 18 and 24, were later arrested on suspicion of firearm offences and attempted murder.

The latest incident follows a series of shootings in Manchester in recent weeks including the drive-by killing of father-of-three Tyrone Gilbert from Longsight.

He had been attending a wake for another gun crime victim in Chorlton-on-Medlock when he was shot dead on 27 July.
