Britons visiting Spain for a holiday are the most likely UK travellers to be robbed, a survey has claimed. More holidaying Britons have become victims of theft in Spain than anywhere else, a survey has claimed.
According to the poll carried out by Swiftcover, one in six Britons have had something stolen while on holiday. The poll suggested one in six Britons have had something stolen on holiday.
Out of those questioned, 37% said it had happened while visiting Spain, 19% were in France, and 9% in the UK. Of the 2,379 people questioned, 37% said it had happened while visiting Spain, 19% said France, and 9% said the theft occurred in the UK.
About a third said they had been pickpocketed, 21% said they had had their accommodation broken into, and 11% had lost possessions from a car. With 14 million Britons visiting the country yearly, Spain is the UK's most popular holiday destination. France comes second with 12 million visitors.
A majority of those questioned said that the stolen goods had been worth between £50 and £500. About 10% said that they were worth more than £500. About a third of those questioned for swiftcover.com insurance by YouGov said they had had their pockets picked.
The poll was carried out by YouGov and the company questioned 2,379 people during July. Just over a fifth (21%) said their accommodation broken into, and 11% had lost possessions from a car.
