A spokeswoman for the Northumbria force said the deaths were currently being treated as "unexplained". Northumbria Police were originally treating the deaths as "unexplained".
Post-mortem examinations are due to be carried out later to establish how the couple died. But after post-mortem examinations had taken place, the force said it was not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
They were discovered at about 19:00 GMT on Wednesday.
