Tesco lorry fire shuts A9 near Slochd summit
(about 3 hours later) | |
A section of the A9 in the Highlands remains closed following a lorry fire between Carrbridge and Inverness.
The A9 was shut at Metal Bridge, about half a mile south of the Slochd summit after a Tesco delivery vehicle caught fire at about 02:45.
The old A9, which runs underneath the bridge, was also closed.
Diversions are in place via Grantown-on-Spey. Northern Constabulary said they were now allowing vehicles under three tonnes to travel north.
HGVs were still being diverted.
More than twenty firefighters tackled the blaze which is thought to have been started by the trailer's braking system which set a wheel alight. The lorry driver was uninjured.
An inspection of the bridge was due to be carried out to see whether it sustained any major structural damage as a result of the fire. |
