At least eight people have been taken to hospital after a military helicopter crash in North Yorkshire. Twelve people on board an RAF helicopter that crashed in North Yorkshire have been taken to hospital.
Five casualties were taken to hospital in Middlesbrough by RAF helicopters, with two more to follow, a Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman said. A Ministry of Defence spokesman said some of the 12, who have been taken to hospitals in Middlesbrough and Newcastle, were "walking wounded".
An eighth person was taken to the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, by road ambulance, she said, adding that more people could be taken to hospital. Some were in a "more serious condition", the spokesman added.
The crash is thought to have occurred west of Catterick Garrison army base. The helicopter came down some time before 2130 BST near the Hudswell Grange wooded area to the west of the Catterick Garrison army base.
Casualties have been taken to the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. Some of the casualties were taken by RAF Sea King helicopter to the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, a Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman said two more people would be transferred there by RAF Sea King helicopter. Others were flown to Newcastle while one person was taken by road ambulance to Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.
