France: Multinational Military Force Expected for Mali

France expects that the United Nations Security Council will authorize the deployment of a multinational African military force in Mali in the coming days, but operations to regain control of the country’s north would begin no earlier than August or September, a French diplomat said Monday. Northern Mali is controlled by several violent Islamist and separatist groups, including Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
