Celtic striker Derek Riordan has been found not guilty of assault charges. Celtic and Scotland striker Derek Riordan has been found not guilty of assaulting two members of staff at a pub in Edinburgh's Grassmarket.
Mr Riordan, 24, of Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire, and his cousin Keith Burrell were cleared after a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. Mr Riordan's cousin, Keith Burrell, was found not guilty of one attack and the other charge was not proven.
Door steward Ben Mallinson, 21, claimed he was assaulted by four men, including Mr Riordan, at Edinburgh pub Biddy Mulligan's in December last year. Both men were also found not guilty of associated breach of the peace charges.
Mr Riordan and his cousin had denied, while acting with others, assauting Mr Mallinson and manager James Kennedy. Mr Riordan, 24, of Airth, near Falkirk, had denied assaulting the door steward and an assistant bar manager at Biddy Mulligan's pub last December.
At Edinburgh Sheriff Court, the sheriff sat late into the afternoon to finish the case, which has been heard over four separate days since it began in mid-May.
Sheriff Douglas Allan found Mr Riordan not guilty of the attack on bar manager James Kennedy and not guilty of the attack on door steward Ben Mallinson, 21.
He found Mr Burrell not guilty of attacking the bar manager, and not proven on the charge of assaulting Mr Mallinson.
