Pistol-whipped
The pair were charged with conspiracy to steal £1.25m from a security van in Effra Road, Brixton, in 2003.
The men, including another remand prisoner Tony Peters, were being taken from Brixton Prison to the Inner London Crown Court when their transit van was ambushed by two armed men.
The driver was shot in the leg by one of the suspects.
The security guard travelling in the back of the van was pistol-whipped across his face.
Tony Peters gave himself up to police days later.
