Man admits murdering policewoman

One of the five men accused of murdering Pc Sharon Beshenivsky in Bradford last year has pleaded guilty.

The judge at Newcastle Crown Court has lifted restrictions on reporting the plea by Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 25.

The four other accused, Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, 20, Raza Ul-Haq Aslam, 25, Faisal Razzaq, 25, and his 26-year-old brother Hassan, all deny murder.

Pc Beshenivsky, 38, was shot as she responded to an alleged armed robbery at a travel agents on 18 November 2005.

Shah alone was charged with the attempted murder of Pc Beshenivsky's colleague Pc Teresa Milburn, who was also shot. He denies the charge.

Firearms offences

In June, he admitted robbery and a firearms charge at a hearing at Leeds Crown Court.

He entered two other guilty pleas to firearms offences during Wednesday's legal submissions in Newcastle.

His guilty plea to the murder charge was entered at a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court on 4 October.

At that hearing, an order was made preventing publication of the admission.

Following representations by media organisations, Mr Justice Smith lifted the order on Wednesday, previously made under the Contempt of Court Act.

A jury of seven women and five men was sworn in on Monday and sent away while legal argument was heard.

They are expected to hear the opening of the case on Thursday.
