Boat carrying children 'capsizes' Girl dies after boat turns over

A search has been launched on a sea loch in the Western Isles following reports a boat carrying 13 children and an instructor had overturned. A girl has died after a boat that was believed to be carrying a party of children overturned in a sea loch.
One person has been reported missing following an incident on Lochcarnan, South Uist. Police said she was recovered from the water and taken to Western Isles Hospital where she died shortly after.
Twelve of the children who were on the boat have since been accounted for, according to local reports. Coastguard, police and lifeboats were launched to search Lochcarnan, South Uist, after a reports a vessel capsized at 1240 BST.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) confirmed that a search and rescue operation was taking place. Northern Constabulary said there were no further details until next of kin have been informed.

A police spokesperson said: "The incident was reported at around midday and the search is currently ongoing. "The female was pronounced deceased shortly after her arrival at hospital."
"It is not known how many people were on board at the time, or indeed if anyone is unaccounted for at this time." He added: "It is understood that no-one else was injured during the incident.
"Northern Constabulary will now carry out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident."
