That rainfall caused a major flooding incident at Comrie, near Crieff in Perthshire, where the Water of Ruchill burst its banks. Some residents were evacuated as about 100 homes faced a flood risk. Transport Minister Keith Brown said the Scottish government already had crews out on the railways and roads in preparation for the bad weather, and that work had already been done to clear culverts and drainage systems, following the rainfall earlier in the week.
He added: "Argyll, right down as far as Stirling and Perth and Kinross seems to be in line for the worst of the rainfall. So we're saying to people in those areas to be prepared."
Mr Brown also urged people to check their route ahead of travelling and to leave extra time for journeys.
Marc Becker, from Sepa's flood unit, said: "The heaviest of the rain is forecast to affect many southern and central parts of the country, coinciding with tomorrow morning's rush hour in some locations.
"Areas likely to be worst affected are those which experienced flooding earlier in the week. In particular, Dumfries and Galloway, western Tayside, Argyll and Central will be susceptible to further river flooding."
