The horse has been taken to an equestrian centre. The horse was taken to the Croft Top Equestrian Centre where it remains.
The owner of the centre Ken Holden described the man's death as a "freak accident".
He said: "Horses do sometimes get distressed in transport but this is a very rare occurrence because they normally travel quite well.
"I don't know what caused the panic attack but the horse was heavily sedated when it arrived and after two or three hours when it came round it was all right. It is OK today."
Mr Holden added he was in touch with the owners' family about when they will collect it.
