Mr Hamilton, 65, said Mrs Knowles had been feeding the dogs in the back garden when he heard screams and dogs barking.
He said: "It wasn't a cry for help or anything and I put it down to children being boisterous.
"It wasn't a vicious sounding bark. I didn't recognise it as such."
He added the screams he heard "may well have been the dogs attacking her".
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said no arrests had been made.
"She had sustained a number of injuries. An investigation is under way to establish a cause of death," she added.
